Appeal to support and to join the class action

18.06.2005

Dear Friends and supporters:

The American Libyan Freedom Alliance (ALFA) is a registered American NGO, with a stated mission to promote democracy, human rights, justice and accountability in Libya. Since the inception of ALFA, its officers and members have engaged in several outreach activities to communicate Libyans' concerns and aspirations to public officials in the US and other Western democracies. Although ALFA was founded two years ago, we have cultivated many valuable friendships and gained many supporters in the US and elsewhere.

We have held numerous functions in the past two years, the most significant of those activities was held at Freedom House, on June 29, 2004, the eighth anniversary of a bloody massacre of 1200 political prisoners at Abusleem notorious prison, outside Tripoli, Libya. On this date, ALFA presented an eyewitness to the massacre, who proceeded to recount the horrors of what he had witnessed. Many members of the national/international media, and human rights organizations attended the hearing. Although we believe that bringing attention to crimes against humanity is essential; however, it is more important to make criminals accountable for their crimes.

Most recently, the Libyan regime was forced to admit to several of his numerous crimes and to compensate the victims of the American PAN AM 103, the French UTA, and La Belle nightclub bombing in Berlin. However, Gadhafi has never admitted to his crimes against the Libyan people, let alone pay compensation to his thousands of victims. Over several years, many of those Libyan victims have moved to the United States, seeking shelter and refuge and have subsequently become US citizens. Recently, some of those citizens have filed a class action lawsuit, seeking compensation for confiscated properties, emotional distress, and physical torture. On behalf of the thousands of Libyan citizens, we are asking for support from our friends and sympathizers, in seeking justice for the many years of abuse by the tyrannical Libyan Regime. Libyan Americans are urged to join the case by filling the required forms, which can be sent on request. To do so, you may contact Dr. Mohamed M. Bugaighis at info@alfa-online.net, and we urge you to check our web site www.alfa-online.net for updates and progress of the case.

Sincerely,

Mohamed M. Bugaighis, PhD
Chairman, American Libyan Freedom Alliance (ALFA)
