The Honorable Mohamed Hosni Mubarak
President of the Arab Republic of Egypt
Dear Mr. President:
The American Libyan Freedom Alliance (ALFA) has been formed
to inform and educate the American and international communities
about Gadhafi's use of impoverishment, oppression and deceit
to perpetuate terrorism and further his grip on power. ALFA
also aims to promote a Libyan democratic society that protects
the rule of law, constitutional liberties, separation of
powers, civil society and basic freedoms of ownership, worship,
assembly, press and expression.
ALFA believes that democracy and freedom are fundamental
to insure US security, and prosperity throughout the Arab
world. As a result, we have applauded President Bush when
he so eloquently stated on November 6th, 2003 at the National
Endowment for Democracy, "Are the peoples of the Middle
East somehow beyond the reach of liberty? Are millions of
men and women and children condemned by history or culture
to live in despotism? Are they alone never to know freedom,
and never even to have a choice in the matter? I, for one,
do not believe it. I believe every person has the ability
and the right to be free."
Gadhafi, the impoverisher, has recently retaliated against
criticism he received in the Egyptian press by imposing
new border restrictions against Egyptian workers. For the
past few months, Gadhafi, the oppressor, has been ordering
his security forces to randomly arrest Egyptian workers
in Libya and return them to Egypt. Although Gadhafi, the
deceitful, has informed you that Libya did not possess Weapons
of Mass Destruction (WMD), on December 19th, 2003 you were
surprised by his public admission that Libya has WMD.
Mr. President, you have put your credibility on the line
to assure world leaders that Gadhafi has changed, but you
have been disappointed many times. Members of ALFA hope
that your government has concluded that Gadhafi only understands
the language of pressure and isolation.
Finally, we should always remember that a democratically
elected government in Tripoli is essential to Libyan aspirations,
regional security, and in the best interest of the Egyptian
people.
Respectfully yours,
Mohamed Bugaighis Ph.D.
Chairman, American Libyan Freedom Alliance (ALFA)
